Description

This is the 1918 8th edition and it does not contains facimiles of hand-written letters from King Victor Emmanuel III (dated Jaurary 19th, 1903) and G. Zanardelli, the then Premier of Italy (dated February 20, 1903)..

This works describes how the Catholic Church operated in Rome at the turn of the century, and it is not for the faint of heart. The author tells us what an Irish bishop once told him: "I, for one, never desired the overthrow of the Pope's temporal power; for, as long as that lasted, the world possessed in Italy an object lesson of the degradation to which a dominant Roman Catholic Church reduces a country and a people."
