Description

Quted from the "Publisher's Notice."

"The present volume, which brings the author to his thirtieth year, is styled Period First to distinguish it from the Sequel, embracing Rousseau's literary and public career, written two years later.

This Second Period will shortly be published in a volume similar to the present one. Although some readers may feel interested only in Rousseau's literary and public career, and others only in his youthful adventures, yet by far the greatest number, it is thought, will not be satisfied short of a full acquaintance with this celebrated and extraordinary man, and his social, moral and political environments. However, this arrangement will accommodate all."
