Description

Quoted from the author's Chapter 1, p. 5.

"There is one characteristic of this series of Little Blue Books of which I am ashamed. I never say a good word for Christianity. It is an outrage on the diplomacy of letters. The rule or convention of self-respecting authors and professors in the present stage of the evolution of thought is that it is a symptom of intellectual respectability to reject the dogmas of the churches, but imprudent to question the utility of religion, more imprudent to deny that Christianity created civilization, and most imprudent to challenge the lofty services in all
ages of the clergy."
