Description

Quoted from the author's Chapter 1, p. 3.

"You may say that you do not care two shakes of a lamb's tail about these differences of scientists and philosophers, but a good many folk who knew nothing about either physics or metaphysics raise some of these questions. Has life any meaning and what is its meaning? If there was no creation why does anything exist at all? Is there such a thing as absolute truth or any criterion of 'it? Even the man who defines metaphysics as "a blind man in a dark room chasing a black cat that isn't there" often asks these questions. Poets and poetical
literary men often ask them. All sorts of folk who resent science because it contradicts their religious belief will fall back upon the charge that it cannot answer these most profound and most important of all questions."

McCabe answers these questions.
