The Bachelor's Guide To Matrimony

Henry Altemus

There are only 13 libraries in the world, according to WorldCat search on October 23, 2012, that have a copy of this book and many of them have restricted access to this work.

This book is a must-read for every man who is married or is considering marriage. The cover of the book shows a picture of a young man, who is blindfolded, walking the plank of a ship and who is about to jump into a sea filled with women.

The pages on the inside of the cover show a fly who is caught in a spider's web.

The book offers much sage advice for the bachelor, as well as the married man, such as the following:

"In love you dance to the music; at the wedding you face it."

"An optimist is a married man who can forget it."

"There is one thing longer than a wife's tongue, and that is her memory."

"The husband's day: eight hours for sleep, eight hours for work, and eight hours for explanations."

"The wife who weeps and cries always will win her point, 'most any day."

This is akin to the first rule of war for women in the battle of the sexes: If at first you do not succeed, cry, cry again.
