Description

This book is so rare that only 35 libraries in the world have a copy. I conducted a WorldCat search on January 17, 2013.

The following description of "A Lift for the Lazy" is taken from a G. P. Putnam list of new publications:

"This volume, printed in a novel style, comprises comprehensive and original materials for "Table Talk" -- such as literary anecdotes and statistics, origin of words, philological curiosities, quaint scraps from old authors, strage customs, odd sayings; in short, as a commonplace book of an extensive reader and shrewd observer, it is a most acceptable "lift" for those who are too lazy or too busy to read whole libraries for themselves."

This little book is a gem of literary trivia not to be found elsewhere. It includes definitions, first uses of a word, some litarary blunders and mis-quotations, and other literary trivia of interest to bibliophiles.
