Description

There is an earlier edition of this book published in 1885; it was thought to have been destroyed in a fire but it was not;  we have the original edition. It contains 18 parts (chapters) and the later parts were to be volume two of this 1887 edition. There are only 7 libraries in the world that have a copy of the 1885 edition of this work.

This 1887 edition of this work is quite rare as a WorldCat search conducted on October 25, 2012 revealed only 26 libraries worldwide have a copy of this work.

The two authors wrote this book as Freethinkers, to cite all the bloodshed, greed, immorality, torture, forgery and falsehood of early Christianity to the 1800s. It deals with the Crusades, the Inquisition, immorality of some of the early popes, false religious relics, the hypocracy of Constantine, etc. In 1882 G.W. Foote was charged in the UK with blasphemy and spent a year in prison. J.M. Wheeler was sub-editor of The Freethinker magazine and took over editorship during Foote's stay in prison.
